Tai Mo Shan Hiking Tour
Tai Mo Shan Hiking Tour
Tai Mo Shan Country Park, New Territories, Hong Kong
The easy paved route leading up Tai Mo Shan from the west is full of morning walkers making their way down heading home to start their working day in time. Fortunately for the leisure hiker, the day on the mountain is still ahead of them. Morning and evening light is best up here.
The road was paved to access the huge satellite dish receiver station at the top. Once up (almost) top, the station can be ignored. The view on a clear day reaches over the mountain ranges reaching out to the east (Sai Kung) and west (Tsuen Mun); to Shenzhen in the north and Hong Kong Island in the south, the airport can be seen as well as the high island reservoir.
Bushes with flowers populate the hills underneath, and birds sing in the valley. Who would not want to be hiking? A bit down the slope at the other side and the paved path stops. Time for lunch break and picnic. Afterwards, the trail turns north into the valley now along with a nature path following a small stream.
The stream becomes stronger and creates the four beautiful Ng Tung Chai Waterfalls along it’s way. The path is for the surefooted though as it is windy and slippery at times over the stone steps down into the valley. Tropical plants embrace the stream and path and fill it with beautiful life.
