Maclehose Trail
Named after the governor of the 70's - Murry Maclehose - the Maclehose Trail, is the longest of several walking routes criss-crossing the New Territories, running east to the west, it is divided into 10 stages. Total distance 100km. Each stage has it's own charm, ease and challenges. Intially it follows the Sai Kung peninsula, mid week taking us to the deserted beaches, until joining the hills and walking along the ridge line of Kowloon's 8 peaks - (becoming 9 dragons, with the addition of the emperor himself, the peninsula boasted nine dragons – in Cantonese, ‘Gau Lung’, later corrupted to Kowloon.)
We can do any of the stages, or for the fit join some of the stages
together. ie: Lions Rock The walk heads up to
the 495-metre-high Lion Rock. From there you will have an incredible
view of urban Kowloon, Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island. After
taking
in the views, the walk heads down to the MacLehose Trail along
hilltop ridges. You’ll go round Eagles Nest mountain with its troupes
of monkeys to the Kowloon Reservoirs and finish at Old Tai Po Road.
full day hike
Pat Sin Leng Range, Plover Cove
Stroll along the fabulous Pat Sin Leng range, named for the
eight fairies or immortals of Chinese mythology,
the Fairies are actually outcrops of hard volcanic rock
which have formed a bumpy and spectacular ridge, so there’s a bit of up and
down involved, and a clear day you can take in the wonderful views across Plover Cove
Reservoir and Tolo Channel back towards Ma On Shan and northwards to China.
Full day strenuous hike, we take our own lunch on this hike
Hi Jackie, Thanks for the wonderful walk. 3 weeks after we got back to New Zealand I am still telling friends about it. Can you believe that we were out for 5 1/2 hours including our lovely lunch stop and in that time we only saw 3 people. How can we keep it a secret it is just not what you expect to do in Hong Kong. We feel very privileged to have been able to do this trip with you. Jackie you are amazing with your boundless enthusiasim and knowledge. I am looking forward to coming back and tramping some more in this region. Best wishes Bruce Finnerty Nov 09 Pat Sin Leng Range New Territories

Sheung Yiu Country Trial
The Sheung Yiu family walk is relatively flat by Hong Kong standards, an easy hour fifteen minutes on firm footing. Or you can add another 2 hours to this and head out to the High Island reservoir and walk the service road back. Both walks offer very rewarding views looking back to the southern islands of the Sai King Peninsula. For the children there's water on the way out and a chance to check out the big red crabs, and the odd cow obstructing the pathway always impresses visitors. It's also well worth planning the walk around the well preserved Hakka village museum (Monday - Sunday 9 - 4pm, closed Tuesdays) which gives a wonderful insight into how locals lived in the not too far distant past.
half day walk, easy walk, NB 2 versions, if hot easier version good option, winter longer version easy still

Amah Rock / Lion Rock Country Park Hike
Experience
the spectacular views of urban and rural Hong Kong with this walk that
takes you to two of Hong Kong’s best known peaks. The walk starts
with a visit to the Che Kung Temple in Sha Tin. The temple is dedicated
to General Che, who earned fame for his loyalty during the last days of
the Sung dynasty (AD 960-1279). You’ll also see one of the few
remaining walled villages in the New Territories.
From the
temple, the walk heads uphill to the legendary Amah Rock, said to be
the petrified remains of a fisherman's wife still waiting for her
drowned husband to return. From here you’ll have a westward view of Tai
Mo Shan, Hong Kong’s tallest mountain. Following the mountain ridge
that separates Kowloon from the New Territories, the walk heads up to
the 495-metre-high Lion Rock. From there you will have an incredible
view of urban Kowloon, Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island.
After
taking in the views, the walk heads down to the MacLehose Trail along
hilltop ridges. You’ll go round Eagles Nest mountain with its troupes
of monkeys to the Kowloon Reservoirs and finish at Old Tai Po Road.
