Clients feedback for walking and hiking guided tours in Hong Kong
Image:
Our objective is to help residents and visitors enjoy parts of Hong Kong they might not otherwise experience. We offer scenic rural hikes, interesting urban walks and rewarding birdwatching, shopping and photography tours. We wish to provide very high quality services, so we value client feedback to help us continually make improvements.
Hello Jackie Thanks for the photos. Those puppies were fun! Indeed -- the weather has been fantastic since I moment I stepped off the plane in HK, it seems. It was a great hike -- a day very well spent. Today I am in Stanley. Lovely here, too. Off to Macau on Wednesday and, depending on when I return to HK, I may be back out for another of your hikes. Either way, I will certainly make a point to spread the word about your business! Again, thanks for your hospitality and for sharing your local knowledge. Much appreciated. Stephanie Plover Cove
Dear Marco I particularly requested a 1 to 1 walk having covered the most obvious aspects on previous visits: I have an interest in the history post 1850 and spent a most enjoyable morning with Marco looking at and discussing some of the lesser known historical gems of Hong Kong. His ability to tailor our walk to meet my wishes coupled with a very detailed knowledge of the history, architecture etc was much appreciated.

Vielen Dank nochmals. Jackie & Marco I
really enjoyed monday, both a useful and very interesting day. I feel much more confident with my camera and although I have a lot to learn I can see the potential. I really liked some of the photos and, of course, I had another opportunity to practice with the camera yesterday (although I haven't looked at those yet). Yesterday I also had a very good day on the walk that Marco lead. Lamma is so pretty and he had good stories to tell. So thanks to you both as you have made my visit to Hong Kong much more interesting. I will definitely recommend your services. Teresa, UK Photography tour Tap Mun and Lamma Island hike May 2010
Hello John,
Thank you for some very enjoyable scouting and birding in HK. The group
enjoyed their time and their HK birds very much. I have been fortunate
to have a great, positive group to hang out with and that this trip has
allowed me so many days of birding, in what was originally going to be a
culture only tour!
For me personally it was great to return to HK, to meet Geoff, Paul, you
and Roger, and to re-familiarize with many southern species. I hope
that there will be a chance to go birding together again in the future.
I hope that Mai Po will re-open soon and that you will enjoy a pleasant
spring of photography and birding.
Best wishes, Dr Mark A. Brazil Author, Consultant, Naturalist and Lecturer - Mark Brazil websiteApril 2010 Birdwatching
John I must just quickly let you know what a very special part of our holiday our morning with you on Friday the 9th April was!! We were so delightfully surprised at the number of first ticks we got on that morning. On the way there Graham was not happy about being dragged out on a walk which would exacerbate his knee condition. However he hardly felt any effects at all and this has confirmed to him that this is a pastime we could enjoy together. I hate watching sport which he is passionate and very knowledgeable about. But we could do bird walks all over the world together thus getting out and about in nature without upsetting his knee!!! The leisurely exercise would do him the world of good. So your morning with us was a good marriage enrichment outing as well as a wonderful birding experience. It has also taught me that it is not only "wild nature" which harbour's the abundance of bird life we experienced in the market gardens. My son's young friends were amazed to learn there were even enough birds left in China and especially Hong Kong to make a walk worthwhile!! We have introduced many people in South Africa and Hong Kong to your websites as well. The highlights for me were the sightings of Asure Asian Magpie and the rare Spoonbill. Thanks for taking us down that track to the gate of the closed Mai Po Wetland. We will definitely try and book a tour with you in that reserve possibly in June or a less humid time next year. Anyway we wish you well in your future birding endeavours. Thank again. Kind Regards from us both, Kath Australia Birdwatching April 2010
Linda Thankyou so much for a great afternoon, I couldn't have done it alone and it was just what I wanted. I told Marco but will send an Email as well b/c I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay thanks to Walk HK. Christine Beads Buttons and bows shopping tour
Roger We really enjoyed our day with Roger we felt very indulged with our private guide! We appreciated the social history, environmental aspect, the human interaction with the physical environment (farming), the personal account as well as the birding of Hong Kong provided by Roger. It has been an excellent way to learn about a major city. Have a great day. Cheers Sarah & Kate, Australia, birdwatching April 2010
"G'day" Jackie, We've now arrived home and my most vivid memory of our trip is the Photographic Day spent with you at Sai Kung Park. How you brought the area to life with your local knowledge and interesting stories. I valued the day of learning more about my camera - your teaching style was just great, and thank you for your patience and encouragement. It was good being able to take the time to stop and practise along the way. You would be impressed by the amount of experimenting I've been doing - it all helps to build confidence with the camera. Jackie, thank you so much for a fantastic day and I would not hesitate to recommend your tour to any keen photographer. Best wishes, Heather Kelly Austrailia - Photography Tour
Hi Jackie: I just wanted to say thanks again for a great walk. It was fun, and informative, and good exercise (my legs were a bit sore the next day!). I will definitely contact you the next time I am in HK! Sincerely, Lisa Plover Cove April 2010

Hi Roger I have not replied earlier as I knew you were away - I hope all is well with your family. Thankyou for the bird list, that was an amazing number of birds and I wasn't even counting. I had a fantastic day even if you felt things were low key at Long Valley and Tai Po Kau. You still managed to find birds for me as I chatted away!! The view of the birds from the hides at Mai Po is stunning - it is like being in a different world - a private bird world. Thankyou for your time and effort, I had a fantastic day. Saying to people 'I went bird watching in HK' fails to convey what an amazing experience it is. You are a gem! I had a fantastic time with Linda - I went slightly overboard on buttons!! Marco was great value on the walk as well which we both thoroughly enjoyed. I think Wes was a bit jealous that I had fitted so much in while he ' worked'. I have to say that I felt like I had this personal one on one experience of HK and managed to fit in and discover much more than the average visitor. It is a great company keep up the fantastic service - I would recommend you all (WHK) in a heartbeat. Fowlers UK April 2010 Birdwatching / shopping / Dragon's Back hike
Dear Jackie Thanks very much for a great walk .... rain notwithstanding! It was a good introduction to walking in HK which I hope to do more of when I'm out again. Patricia UK Dragons Back April 2010
Martin I
loved my day out with you so thanks for that and it was nice to learn a little about the history of Stanley rather than just look around the market like most tourists do! I thought the school and chapel were great places to look around with all of that hidden history. I also enjoyed walking around the cemetary as every grave stone has an interesting albeit sad story to tell. It was good also to have a walk through the market and the square with Chinese temple etc. Thanks again for your tour which I did enjoy and I wish you well for the future. If I come back to Hong Kong we might have to do a slightly more challenging walk! Kind regards Richard WW2 Sites March 2010
Dear Linda, Just a note to say thankyou so much for taking us on the shopping tour. We both had a great day out and went back and got Anish's shoes made and went out for dinner in the SOHO area also. Tailor Kwuan was absolutely excellent and we were both delighted with the clothes that he made and you know that, as we are both dressmakers, how fussy we are! Once again, many thanks and we will definitely be recommending your services! With very best wishes,Katie and Anish,Private shopping tour March 2010
Hi Jackie Thanks for your New Year wishes and thought we would make contact from this gorgeous country to say how much we enjoyed our 2 trips with you and Marco - def. a reason to come back to HK and do some more walks ! hi Jackie Just thought I would write briefly to thank you for a great tour around Kowloon markets. The girls had a great time and throughly enjoyed the afternoon, the knowledge, the shopping at the Jade Markets and your very friendly and fun approach. Anyway Jackie a great afternoon, and much appreciated by all 6 involved. And a big thank you for the photography. Take care and many thank. regards Fi Wicks, Australia, Kowloon Markets, Feb 2010
Hello Marco, Thank you so much for providing me with these additional photos, I never got the chance to see Hong Kong with some sunshine and it really is a beautiful city! My remaining time in Hong Kong was wonderful: I walked the Lamma Family Trail, visited the Botanical Gardens and Hong Kong Park, hiked the Morning Trail to the Peak and saw the Museum of History (my favourite!). It was great to see everything you had explained to me on our tour so well displayed inside the museum. I also want to thank you for your advice on the Airport Express, it made my trip back very easy. I will certainly recommend your company to anyone visiting Hong Kong and wish you the best in the future. Kind Regards, Laura von Hagen
Marco, you've been a great guide and host with your indepth introduction of Hong Kong that divulges more than what we can see from appearances. Wei, Singapore
A bientôt donc, amitiés, François from Paris, France
Jackie What a great day. Thanks so much Jackie for an informative and fun day. Loved the scenery, the lunch and the company. A great way to appreciate what else Hong Kong has to offer (it’s not all about the shopping!). Will be back soon for more Walk Hong Kong activities. Alison Lamma Island Jan 2010
Jackie What a fantastic day!!!! It is great to have a guide that is so enthusiastic and passionate about where she is and what she does, while at the same time being relaxed and laid back. We got to see a side of Hong Kong that is often overlooked and very under appreciated. And to do it with people who had similar interests added to the experience. For anybody considering this walk, DO IT!! I assure you that you will not be disappointed. Lunch exceeded our expectations. We will certainly be recommending this to our friends and family. Many thanks Jackie. Lamma Island Jan 2010
Roger Thanks for the list - haven't worked out how to print it off yet, but will do soon so we can have a good look at it - seems OK so far. We hit Melbourne last night in fine style - pretty hot today, but we can live with that knowing what it has been like back home! We most thoroughly enjoyed the day and it wasn't a step too far at all the way we ended it. We both got back to the hotel having done far more than we expected but feeling uplifted because of it, so don't worry about that. We are now enjoying being out in the lovely countryside about an hour north west of Melbourne - lots of birds here too and the odd roo plodding around in the bush! All the best David & Ellie Full day birding 18th January
HI Jackie Just to say a big thank you for today's walk--I thoroughly enjoyed it! I had a lovely time in Shek O--the beach was very nice and quiet, as well as in Stanley. Probably spent too much! Hello Jackie , firstly I should have corresponded with you earlier , to say how much I enjoyed the walk with yourself , Ian (Englishman) , Fergus and your then new guide. Especially appreciated all the local customs history information you shared with us. Christine (my wife) was organising our holiday photos last night , logged onto your website and was delighted to see a our happy group photo. We plan to visit Hong Kong again in 2/3 years, shall come on a walk assuming you are still conducting them ,thanking you Philip. Austraila - Ma On Shan
Jackie and Marco I really enjoyed the week of walking Hong Kong, it was a great experience to get to know the area by such professional guides. I should have never thought that Hong Kong offers such a variety of landscapes and impressions. I also enjoyed our conversations very much, I learnt a lot from it.
I add some special greetings to Fergus from my dog Barks. For dog lovers I recommend the book "The philosoper and the wolf" by Mark Rowlands which I read recently. Best wishes Horst Germany - Plover Cove, Dragons Back, Deserted Beaches, and Lamma Island
Hi Marco I really did appreciate the Dragon's Back hike so much - it was wonderful to get away from Honk Kong's intense "urban-ness" for a few hours and enjoy the amazing scenery. I never have imagined there would be so much natural beauty and open space so close to the city. I am glad to have had the opportunity to experience it. Thank you and all the best, Marian Purdy
Marco led a great hike that was educational as well as a good workout. The views are breathtaking! I would recommend this hike to anyone visiting Hong Kong.
Fantastic walk. As Helen said even more memorable because of the weather. I absolutely loved seeing another side of Hong Kong and will be in touch next time I visit to do some more. Many thanks Marco for a great day. Linda
Marco The Lamma Island walk was a wonderful way to see a part of Hong Kong few visitors know about. On a beautiful sunny day, we enjoyed the bamboo forests and the butterflies as well as the wonderful view, of the sea all around. It was strenuous but 14 year old Alice had no trouble with. I thoroughly recommend this walk. Peter, Australia, Lamma Island
Thank you Jackie and Marco for a fabulous introduction to the hilltops and jungles of Hong Kong's country parks. I enjoyed all your walks, and recommend them as an unique insight into Hong Kong and its people. Not to be missed! Peter, Australia, Plover Cove, Deserted Beaches, and Dragon's Back
Hi Jackie, just wanted
to let you know how much we enjoyed the trek last Saturday. The
Dragon's Back plus the 'reservoir loop' made for an easy walk with
spectacular views. So near the city, yet so far away as they say. Your
local knowledge was really interesting and I would love to come back
and do more! When Tim gets the pub we'll let you know as obviously we'll need a Kiwi on the bar staff however short-term... Thanks very much, Steve. UK Dragons Back Dec 09
Hi Jackie, Thanks for the wonderful walk. 3 weeks after we got back to New Zealand I am still telling friends about it. Can you believe that we were out for 5 1/2 hours including our lovely lunch stop and in that time we only saw 3 people. How can we keep it a secret it is just not what you expect to do in Hong Kong. We feel very privileged to have been able to do this trip with you. Jackie you are amazing with your boundless enthusiasim and knowledge. I am looking forward to coming back and tramping some more in this region. Best wishes Bruce Finnerty Dec 09 Pat Sin Leng Range New Territories
Dear Roger Muscroft I am sorry to be so late in getting back to you. On our return to the UK I managed to pick up a fairly bad dose of swine flu from which I am still recovering and Chris has suffered from a dreadful cold. But we must say a BIG thank you for our day together - we really enjoyed it and saw so many birds ...it was just what we needed. I have a lot of work to do on my own birding list, but when it is ready I will send it over, and I will have a look at the blog as well. We managed to get back to Tai Po Kau on our own for another visit. We saw a Crested Goshawk - really close in a tree on the RHS side of the main path, just below the picnic area, and had fabulous views of Scarlet Minivets moving in a mixed flock through the canopy further along. Flycatchers and warblers were everywhere and all at once! We also did the HK Wetland Park which was good for Temminks Stint and good views of an Osprey - but too many cameras in the hide to make it comfortable. Our trip to Tap Mun was fairly quiet because we were concentrating on the photography with Jackie, but we managed a pretty good sighting from the ferry of two White-Bellied Sea Eagles soaring with their wings held in a V-shape and a Pacific Reef Egret around the island harbour. Our last birding trip was along the Lugard Road around The Peak. We sat to munch our sandwiches on one of the benches just a few hundred yards from the start and were quite suprised to see a male Mugimaki Flycatcher ! We had a brilliant time in HK and are indebted to you for helping us to adjust to the different habitats and avifauna of the region. It made a big difference. Every good wish Russ & Chris (Bird-watching Nov 09. From UK)
Dear Jackie Peers In haste this is just a quick note to say a huge thank you for looking after us on our Photography Tour in Hong Kong. We got back on the 26th Nov and then went down with the Flu - there is no justice ! Over the 3 weeks Chris took more than 600 images and I am still getting to grips with all of mine. I intend to make it into a photobook and if I can find somewhere I will try to get it onto the internet somehow. We both learned a lot with you and have grown further in our interests - many thanks for your very kind hospitality. Russell and Chris, UK Nov 09 Photography tour Tap Mun

Dear Jackie Thank you for a wonderfull day with a good learning curve. I really believe you brougt me a level up in photography. I looked through the photos on our television and that made a world of difference for many of the pictures. The pictures of the rusty wagon had so many more colours in it when seen in big size. I have attached the four photos that I belive turned out the best - whit the one cropped as we disscussed. Further I made a collage of the four. This is just a quick note to say a huge thank you for the great day out we had in Sai Kung photographing the abandoned houses. I learnt so much that day. Hi Linda, I
just wanted to drop you a line and thank you for the two fantastic
tours that you managed for me last week in Shenzhen and HK. I
definitely couldn't have managed to buy as much or such great products

Dear Roger Thank you for your e mails and especially for the amazing list. No wonder it was such a fantastic day! I enjoyed every minute of it, helped along by your knowledge, experience and enthusiasm. You did a wonderful job both in finding 86 different species of birds and in keeping the three of us happy when our experience was so varied. Certainly you were very kind and encouraging to me as a complete beginner in the presence of those with considerable experience! And it was great to visit such contrasting areas of the Northern New Territories. It has certainly wetted my appetite and who knows I might even be seriously hooked now! Joanna. Hello Jackie Once again, a HUGE thank you for such a great day hiking Ma On Shan. As usual your local knowledge both contemporary and historical made the hike so pleasurable. The company on the hike was excellent, Merissa, Phil the Tasmanian and of course the energetic Fergus, ( hope you got the paw prints washed out!! ). I must say that you make it feel like a days hiking with a friend rather than a guide, and think thats what makes, for me anyway, Walk Hong Kong so special. ( plus the sugary, treacley slice for lunch was heaven)
Please pass my thanks onto Marco for a great walk on Dragons Back, and also Martin for his exceptional walk on Wong Nai Chong Gap.
Again I have a purposely left some walks, un-walked, and thats purely as an excuse to return to the fantastic area. Thanks for recommending the book by Martin Booth ( Gweilo ) which I went out and bought and could not put down on the flight home, I found it captivating. Thanks again, take care Ian Ma On Shan Nov 09

Christian Bonk, TOURS Magazin

We arrived on the afternoon of Monday 14th September in the middle of a typhoon warning level 8, walked booked for the next morning, there was no option it had to be cancelled. Fortunately the typhoon veared off over China , what a relief.
Wednesday morning weather improving although it rained on and off all day, but that did not dampen our spirits in any way. We walked from the Peak to Aberdeen, opting not to take the short cuts. We learnt a lot about the beginings of Hong Kong and how the Brits were drug dealers and pirates, nothing has changed there then!
Fortunately Jackie our Kiwi Guide (another Brit in disquise) managed what should have been our first days walk Dragons Back for Thursday.
The dragon certainly smiled upon us that day, clear skys and not a drop of rain and an wonderful 'chatty' guide full of interesting facts and information. What a pity it would have been if we had missed this walk, although strenuous for two out of condition people, it was worth every ounce of energy we had to put into it. Views not to be missed, after the walk we got a bus to Stanley, what a lovely place well worth the visit. We took the local bus back to Central which gave us an excellent view of what the other 'quiet' side was like.
Thank you once again, if we ever make it back to Hong Kong we certainly be taking more of your walks, I promise I will try to remember to ask for my trouser legs back! Best wishes Stuart and Maureen Sullivan, UK Dragon's Back & Peak to Aberdeen. Sept. 09

Marco, thanks for taking time to walk 10 km with us. Thank you for being so patient with 2 very unfit walker…We really enjoyed it and we look forward to more tracking with you the next time we visit Hong Kong. Jess & Michael, Singapore. Dragons Back Sept 09
A really great thing to do in Hong Kong. Exploring the new territories and really getting to know your camera (it became an even better friend). Thanks Jackie for the great views and insights! Best regards, Ramon. Photography Trip Sept 09
It’s just amazing looking through the images and the photos on the Walk Hong Kong website. As a local HongKonger who has never hiked any of the trails except walking around the 3 km trail on The Peak is, the images looked quite surprising actually - they seem so distant yet so real. I must say, hats off to the tour guides: Jackie, Marco, Martin and the rest of the company, you guys are doing an amazing job at showing people around Hong Kong, even to the Hong Kong I never knew of except for Silvermine Bay, Shek O, Stanley, in and around Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. Although I’ve never joined a tour before, I will definitely do it one day. Thanks guys for contributing so much to Hong Kong! You guys are doing a great job! James Hong Kong. September 09
Dear Marco-san; Thank you very much for your guidance on not only Dragon’s Back but Hong Kong. We enjoyed very much our first time exploring the nature side of Hong Kong. We found that Hong Kong isn’t only the shopping town! The next time, we will try the hikes in the New Territories. In the meantime, the Thailand food restaurant at Shek O town which you introduced was excellent. Thank you Yoshizaki san. Dragons Back September 09
What a great hike…Marco, seriously, you’re one of the best tour guides in the world…everyone is gonna be raving about you on TripAdvisor soon, if you were a stock, I’d invest! Hi Roger We really had a good time and thoroughly enjoyed our day birding. I have been recounting tales of the bird list *(82 species)* to my pro birding friend, Andy, and he is very jealous. He did not see anywhere near as much stuff as we did (ha ha!) when he visited. I think you are correct about the hobby, it was a fine looking specimen. Anyway, thanks once again and the next time we come to Hong Kong, we will do it again! Best wishes Andy & Rebecca (UK) Birdwatching
Hi Marco, Thank you for your wonderful guided walk from Wanchai to Repulse Bay you have given us. We had a wonderful time and it was one of the highlights of our tour. Regards, Matthew and 22 teenager from Australia
Dear Semirah Thank you for a great hike - what a workout we had! Inspite of the scorching sun, my sister and I enjoyed the hike very much. Next time, we will do it in winter! But we couldn't get any of our friends to come along with us :-( Enjoy the rest of your summer! Wai Fong Dragons Back August 09
Marco, we are still talking about the informative and wonderful experience we had with you in HK. Hope all is well. We certainly will recommend you to our friends who will be travelling to HK. Allen
Hello Martin, I wanted to thank you again for taking me on the walk on Sunday. I enjoyed it very much, and really felt a connection to my great-uncle Robert W. If you have a look at this link, it indicates he was a member of A company, which you talked about. You will also see a Cecil W - he is also a relative - he was married to Robert W sister Florence. I was surprised to see his name, but upon reflection vaguely remember my grandmother telling me that Cecil fought at HK as well - he survived and returned to Canada, and died in 1986.
The taxi driver took me to Sai Wan cemetery! It was very important for me to see the cemetery and pay my respects to those who did not make it - it was very emotional to see the number of graves. I took lots of photos. Thanks again Martin, I will definitely keep in touch. I am also going to do as you suggested and try to contact surviving veterans and relatives of veterans back in Canada. Take care, John, World War 2 sites

Hi Jackie Thanks for a great day last Thursday....was terrific to see so much more of Hong Kong and find out how much more the camera can do!! You showed me buttons I never even knew existed and it certainly has motivated me learn more and practice!! Thanks also for the shots from Marcos and I have attached a few of mine. Looking forward to our next sojourn into HK Will hopefully see you soon. Thanks again Cheers Dale Photography Tour June 09
Hi Jackie, It was a fantastic day on Thursday and feel a lot more confident on using my camera and learning about some of the different functions for creating a different feel to my photos. The location was just superb and it was a place that we had not heard of before and would not have gotten to. I just need to learn now how to take photos at night-time, tried using some of the settings that we used on the day but they dont seem to translate too well for night-time! Here are some of my photos and welcome any feed back that you may have. Look forward to doing some more walks with you in the very near future. Again, thanks for a wonderful experience! Cheers Ange, Photography Tour June 09
Hi Jackie, Many thanks to you - we had a great day and learnt a lot. We all left motivated and fired up to go and learn more about how to use our cameras. We will certainly recommend Walk Hong Kong to others, especially our friends here in Macau, and friends who visit us here in Macau who are always on the lookout for something different and interesting to do. Your tour really shows a different side of Hong Kong. Thanks also for the photos - I've sent them on to Angela and Dale, and also attached some of mine from yesterday. Hi Jackie Thanks for a great walk from the Peak to Aberdeen last month. Doing the walk on our first morning on our first trip to Hong Kong opened our eyes to the beauty and history of Hong Kong. Your commentary from the moment we met brought Hong Kong and its history alive. We loved seeing the natural side of Hong Kong island before we descended to the usual tourist delights. We hope that your business grows and will be sure to recommend your company when our friends travel to Hong Kong. Greg and Sue Elks Bonville, Australia. March 09 Peak to Aberdeen
Have had an excellent day out with Roger, covering a variety of sites and thereby different habitats, thus maximising the range of species picked up. Through meticulous planning Roger ensured that we moved around sites at a relaxed pace, but one that ensured that we arrived at key points at the right time to benefit from the tide pushing birds to show their best. I also appreciated the advice based on nearly 30 years of HK birding in commenting on the birds I had seen, and others I had not been likely to see, in my travels around HK, also the after sales service in providing a list of the birds we recorded.....they were coming too thick and fast for me to take notes whilst we were watching. Best wishes, Mike. Birdwatching March 2009
Marco A quick message to warmly thank you for the highly enjoyable (and not too taxing) hike across Lamma island - good company, an excellent lunch and a welcome change of pace from the frenzy of downtown Hong Kong. Usually the idea of taking a "tour" has me running for cover, so it was great to find Walk Hong Kong and your mission to share the "secret" sides of the place with visitors. Peter, Italy, Lamma Island, March 09
Dear Marco We are now back in the UK after a great trip to New Zealand, which is quite spectacular. Our stop over in HK was also excellent and we really enjoyed the walk over the Dragon's Back. It was great to do it with someone who as well as showing us the way could tell us a great deal about the area and its history. We will recomend you to any of our friends who may be heading that way and who knows we may be through there again sometime soon. All routes seem to head that way. Best regards Hamish and Kate - Dragons Back
Roger, Thank you so much for a wonderful day. At first I couldn't believe the total count--82 species! But I checked through the list and it sure looks right. Thanks to you, we now know the places we want to return for some more fabulous birdwatching while we're here in Hong Kong. We both really enjoyed your company, and appreciated that you took the time to list all the birds we saw. Also, what a treat it was to see the festival preparations in Ho Sheung Heung and taste soya with ginger and sugar! You are a multi-talented guide--birds and local culture! I was serious when I said that if you ever find yourself near Washington, DC, we'd love to show you some of our favorite birding spots. Thanks again,Janet Full day Bird watching March 2009
Gesa Photography tour 24th Feb 09
Hi Jackie, Just want to send you a note to thank you for taking us on the wonderful Ma On Shan hike a couple of weeks ago. Sami and I enjoyed that hike thoroughly. Jackie, Thank you so much for taking us on the Walking Tour of Kowloon markets - and for the photo of your "friend". He is definitely going into the album along with other photos of the bird market. Thank you for all your help in encouraging us to be adventurous in a strange city. Best wishes, Beryl Gregg Kowloon Markets Jan 09
Dear Roger
We were sad that we had not left more time for our four days "transit"
in Hong Kong; I don't think that either of us realised quite how much
open space & nature walking would be in Hong Kong when we devised
our world trip. So thank you so much for showing a small part of it to
us. We had such a thoroughly enjoyably day with you and the Gavin
Maxwell lecture was a real bonus. Despite the spoonbills, eagles,
kingfishers and even the wonderful Painted Snipe seen during the day,
the highlight for me still has to be the "disappearing" Chinese Pond
Heron.
Thanks for the great pictures and the checklist. From our perspective,
the experience could not have been improved. Thank you for providing
the highlight to our visit to Hong Kong. With kind regards Nicholas & KarenBird watching
Hello Roger, We have enjoyed looking through the (bird)list you sent us; I think we had managed about 50!* It has been good fun remembering that beautiful day in Hong Kong on some cold winter evenings in England. We spent a few days in Oxford at the end of last week, and one day we had a walk along the Thames and saw heron and great crested grebe. Our very best wishes to you.

Hi Jackie Just a note to say how much we both enjoyed the trip last Wednesday. We both feel that we really got a lot out of it. Having originally booked the trip as a b'day present for Paul I feel almost guilty that I enjoyed it as much as I did ! It has certainly awakened an interest for me that wasn't there before in trying to do more than just 'pointing and pressing' with my camera. Paul really enjoyed the day (and of course he's actually delighted that I have stopped huffing and puffing at him every time he stops to take a shot...) Friday was our last day and we had an 'urban' day in Hong Kong via Star ferry then going round markets and temples etc - again with the cameras. We were both surprised at the detail we are now seeing in everyday things that perhaps we didn't even notice before! Ann and Paul, UK Photography trip November 08

Dear Jackie, just a quick note to thank you for your expertise and hospitality during our recent walks with you in Honk Kong. Not only did you arrange for great weather, but your guidance on both the Peak to Aberdeen trail and Dragon's Back were both first rate. It amazes me that, despite having lived in Hong Kong for over a decade (30 years ago....), I was not aware of the existence of these beautiful and accessible walks. (Your tolerance of my " I remember when.." sessions was also remarkable!). Anne and I also appreciate the time you took to explain the simplicity of various other aspects of Hong Kong life including how to access the MTR! Your professionalism and knowledge were greatly appreciated and we are now firmly intent on walking several legs of the MacLehose trail as well as exploring the outlying islands in the coming year - with you and your team if you will have us! With grateful thanks Tim and Anne Australia
Dear Jackie and Marco,
Thank you both for two wonderful Hong Kong experiences! My friend and I joined the Kowloon Markets walk and the Deserted Beaches hike in October 2008. Both walks far exceeded our expectations. Over and above the great locations, you provided fascinating insights and delightful company. More Hong Kong Walks will top my ‘must do’ list on my next visit.
Best wishes for a thriving business, Alison Chant
"Marco, Tack för en skön dag bortom skyskrapor och shopping, nu vet vi att Hong Kong är så väldigt mycket mer än bara storstad. Perfekt med en vandring som startar så nära stan. Och minst lika intressant och spännande var allt du hade att berätta om Hong Kong och hur det är att leva där! Cheers, Jonas & Malin" Dragon's Back Nov 2008
HI Jackie Both Sarah and I would like to thank you so much for making our stay in Hong Kong a memorable one. All of the tours we did with you were fascinating and had we not done them I think we would have a different view of Hong Kong. You opened our eyes to the other side of Hong Kong which is a place that will now rate high on our list of places to revisit. We would also like to thank you for the hospitality you showed to us on the evening after Tap Mun. You were more than just a tour guide and both Sarah and I agree that this was the best evening we had all week. Walk Hong Kong will be highly recommended by us to anybody we know visiting Hong Kong. Hello Jackie Just a note of thanks for the two fabulous walks, ( Lamma Island and Deserted Beaches) I completed with you during my recent stay in Hong Kong. From eating freshly caught seafood at the waterside 'Lamma Hilton', to hiking in the Sai Kung country park was a fantastic experience, and such an amazing contrast from the high speed, city hustle and bustle of Hong Kong and Kowloon. And to have such a knowledgeable and personable guide I found made the hikes such a pleasure. I look forward to returning sometime in the future and completing more of your fantastic walks. take care Ian Taylor, UK Lamma Hike November 2008 ps, to see a traditional chinese fishing boat unloading its catch of 'coca-cola' was a sight to behold on Lamma Island!!
Dear Marco, Thank you very much for everything. It was happy I chose Dragon's Back Tour organized by Walk Hong Kong Ltd. I walked with my 3 Japanese friends. Many of Japanese asked me "Is there any mountain in Hong kong? " I answed every time "There are always some mountains in every islands. And Hong kong's mountains have great views because you can see beautiful towns and seas." I think Dragon's Back trail is a typical amazing one in Hong Kong. Even though I'm 72 years old, I was able to walk safely becase of nice guide and well maintained trail. Thank You! yours, HideakiNovember 2008
Hi Jackie, Thank you, Jackie, for a great class. It really exceeded my expectations. I was expecting a lovely day in the outskirts of Hong Kong, coming away with some special photos, but not the learning experience that you provided. I honestly now look through the lens differently than before. And I must admit, I feel my photos are more interesting; for myself and also for those with whom I share. I highly recommend your photo class for beginners and experiences camera buffs alike. And especially for travelers who want to find something different. Thank you.
Dragon Back Hike was such a wonderful challenge. I have been to Hong Kong several times. It always amazes me how the country side and the parks are such a marked difference from the bustling city most people think of. Marco was a wonderful guide with his extensive knowledge of Chinese culture and history and plant life found a long the hike. The view from the top is amazing! I'm recommending this trip to my family who is coming in December/Jan. The Photography Tour with Jackie was such a great experience. She taught me so much about my camera, composition and field of depth. I would recommend this trip to everyone from newbies trying to learn to experienced photographers. Will definitely try to fit in more hikes with Jackie and Marco the next time I'm here! Stephanie Cheung Dragon's Back Photography trip August 2008
Hello Marco, We had a great time even though I complained about my feet and the light sunstroke, hehehe oops, next time ill wear the hat from the beginning, and I am guessing Monica's method on the foot wrapping is not a bad idea either.
Anyways, thank you for the pictures also, and thank you for teaching us so much about the culture, I think now I understand a little bit more on how things work around here and we are very glad we got to see these Deserted places that not many people that come to Hong Kong get to see, plus I agree with you on the great company, we enjoyed it very much and had a lot of fun also. Dear Roger, In relation to comments about the tour, Panniya and I have talked about our afternoon with you and we have only positive comments.
The meeting place was easy to find, and your first comments about the railway station tower gave a nice context for starting. The walk through the Peninsula hotel was unexpected and a pleasure. We both appreciated being shown the MTR, and the variety of markets you took us to made the afternoon interesting and enjoyable. It was a good idea to walk back towards the Harbour because that meant our taxi ride home was very short. Happily we did not have to see how resourceful you are in wet weather - and the four hours or so was enough for an unhurried trip through the chosen sites. So, many thanks again for an excellent itinerary and enjoyable conversation. Best wishes, Graham and Panniya Forshaw. Kowloon Markets July 2008
My sister-in-law and I were recently in Hong Kong and used Marco and Jackie for walking tours. Both tours were GREAT. Jackie was wonderful about adapting the tour to what Gail and I really wanted to see. We were able to choose from several things and customize the day. She was a great help for bartering in the Jade market and we got several good buys. Marco had to completely re-think his day with us. Even tho we had very heavy rainfall ( we thought we were going to cancel) he was still able to do a wonderful tour of Hong Kong Island. The history of Hong Kong is extremely interesting and the way you can walk almost the whole city without getting wet is amazing!! Both guides are very personable and worth the time and money. After a hectic 6 week trip across North Africa, we arrived in Hong Kong as a stopover for a couple of days on our way home to Australia. Wanting something outside of the city, we searched the internet and found the Walk Hong Kong site. Our walk around Lamma Island with Jackie took us to a side of Hong Kong a world away from the high rises and the commerce. A traditional village, a fabulous lunch, serenity, history – it was great. The bird watching trip with Roger was wonderful - we saw so many birds before even leaving the car park, it was a prelude to the day ahead. I just loved it. Roger knew so much about the environment, the birds it was wonderful. Julie & Dean, Australia Lamma Island and Bird watching tours
As a frequent visitor to Hong Kong on business, I thought I'd seen a lot of Hong Kong's mostly urban landscapes. Walk Hong Kong showed me a different side of Hong Kong in my trip through the lonely hakka fishing villages of its eastern islands. Here's where Hong Kong pauses for thought in its frenetic passage through life and it was great to have the opportunity to capture that on camera. Jackie was great at helping us all to get more out of our respective cameras too! Li-Ming Sinagpore Sai Kung East Country Park 2008
Jackie, I wanted to thank you again for a wonderful hike on Thursday. When I decided to go to the conference in Hong Kong, I was expecting a large city, not much more - and I'm not a city person!
Hi Marco, Thank you for forwarding the pictures, they are really good for pulling memories together. The tour was educational and touchy (for us as Chinese anyway). It was quite an eye and ear opening experience.
This was my second visit of Hong Kong. I planned before the trip already to escape the city for at least for one day and to discover the non-urban parts of the Island. So, I searched the Internet and found Walk Hong Kong. My friend and I, we both joined the Dragon's Back tour. Although the weather was a bit foggy and rainy we definitely enjoyed the trip. The beautiful countryside, rolling hills covered with trees and bushes, clear and fresh air. While walking through the hills we could see once in a while parts of the city far away. At the end of the tour
we followed Jackie's suggestion and had a rich and delicious lunch in a
fish restaurant in Shek O. It was a great day and, although many of
my friends want believe, it was a highlight of our visit in Hong Kong. Best regards from Germany Christof - Dragon's Back April2008

I heard about Walk Hong-Kong through Internet, preparing Hong-Kong trip from France; I came several time before and walked a lot in town but never along the sea. Marco organized a unforgetable customized tour in Lamma Island specially for me and my wife. The weather was very fine, and take a little boat from Aberdeen is a wonderful beginning, then climb a very safe trail to discover splendid views around under blue sky and far from crowd, come down through bamboo woods, little villages and beaches, that was a marvelous day. We learnt a lot about Nature, Religion and History. Marco is very professionnal, attentive to everything and so kind as well. For sure, everybody who is coming in HK has to make a tour with Walk Hong-Kong !! Thank you very much Marco and see you. Nicolas & Juliette - Paris Lamma Island March 2008
Christelle
My hike with you was an incredible journey. I asked for a challenge and you delivered by customizing a trip for me. It was the perfect combination of scenery (despite early fog), hills, jungle and paved roads. The wild monkeys & dogs just added to the experience. With all of my hiking adventures in New York, I still can't believe that I can add 2 sections of the MacLehose to my outdoor adventures. Jason United States April 2008 - Customised tour
Dear Marco, Thank you so much for such a fantastic day yesterday, we all enjoyed it so much and now feel so knowledgeable about the heritage of Hong Kong - and it is exciting to think just how much more there is to learn! It is amazing how much you can learn in one day and how your eyes are opened to all that is going on around you. I look forward to working with you in the future. Many thanks and best wishes, Alice - Travel Specialist
Hi Jackie Thank you so much for a wonderful time in Hong Kong. I have been to H.K. several times and this has been one of best trips. Thank you for bringing the extra back pack and letting me use it. The trip was very well organised and no time wasted. You and your husband (Dave) are very knowledgeable about the area and fun to talk to. And it was great having Fergus along! It was also nice to be around others who enjoy the outdoors and appreciate a good hike. The choice of restaurant was a good one, as well. The next time I'm in Hong Kong, I will definitely make sure that I go hiking with y'all again. Thanks for the great time. Michelle Tai Wan/ United States April 2008 Deserted Beaches hike
Thanks Heaps Marco We thoroughly enjoyed our walk and your company. We will definitely recommend you to anyone visiting Hong Kong. We really liked all the info you were able to tell us about the Island and it's history. It was fascinating to see the contrast between the city and the rural parts of Hong Kong. Thankyou again. Hi Jackie I've been meaning to e-mail you to thank you for two fantastic walks. We all really enjoyed both the Dragon's Back and Deserted Beaches. It was great to see a different side to Hong Kong. Your friendliness and knowledge of the area enhanced the experience for all of us. We've already recommended you to friends and will be in touch if we return to Hong Kong. Kind regards Liz Bamber England April 2008
Hello Jackie The walks in Hong Kong with you were really fun, especially the beach one. It was great to see the monkeys and the lunch was really nice. The bridge across the water at the beach was really cool. It was great when you showed us the fish tanks in the town after the walk. We went to Disney the day after and that was cool too, especially Space Mountain which we went on 3 times. Thanks for taking us on the walks and I really enjoyed them. "Choosing Marco Foehn's company to arrange a walking tour of Hong Kong proved to an inspired choice. We had a great day and by the end we felt there was no part of Hong Kong left untouched. The city's excitement and vigour were ours for the day, and we will never forget our Hong Kong walking tour. Next time were going birding on the Hong Kong delta, also offered by this great company! Dear Jackie, I must say this was a fantastic experience. I told myself I shall get back in shape although the old engine isn’t quite what it used to be. I just remembered when I enlisted in the service and volunteered for the Navy frogmen, we did 140 Km fast walk in 24 hours with almost no respite. But that was when I was 18, I just turned 56 and I have to face the fact that I am not fit. Nevertheless, you did succeed today in jump-starting me for the next experience. So give my best regards to your faithful Fergus. Moshe Salama Israel March 08 customised Ma On Shan hike
We had a great time on both the Dragon and Lantau walk. These walks were great and they made our holiday in HK especially memorable. Thank you and Jackie for your company and guiding. We will let people know about your company. Good Luck. Les and Antoinette Australia Feb 2008
I enjoyed our hike very much, despite the cold, and really appreciated all the knowledge you were able to share with us. Thank you too for your tip about the Museum of History. I only managed to see half of it, but I thought it was very well put together. It was very good to meet you. I hope your business continues to prosper, and will certainly tell anyone else who is visiting Hong Kong about you. With very best regards, Marilyn Farr Feb 2008
We did three walks with Walk Hong Kong, the Lantau Big Buddha to Tai O, Peak to Aberdeen and Dragons Back. Everyone was superb!!!! Jackie and Marco are great guides, very knowledgeable and friendly. Thanks to these guys we got to see parts of Hong Kong that we would never have been able to see on our own. We are planning to come back to HK and will 100% be using Walk Hong Kong to explore this great city. If you come to Hong Kong, use WHK, you will not regret it. Thanks for everything. Hello Walk Hong Kong, I am so grateful for the magnificent walk over the Dragon’s Back yesterday made most enjoyable by the exceptional guidance of Marco! He was the most insightful and helpful guide imaginable. He stayed right with me and would not go ahead until he was certain that I would make it and with his encouragement, I did! I am still smiling from having accomplished this hike and experiencing the incredibly beautiful views but mostly, I am smiling because of my skilled, knowledgeable and intuitive hiking guide, Marco. Thank you for a great hike. I will tell all of my friends around the world to contact you for some wonderful hiking experiences while in Hong Kong. Sincerely, Melissa Crews
Last July, my husband and myself took the Dragon’s Back hike on Hong Kong Island. It was really strenuous, but worth it. I am in pretty good shape, but I found the walk challenging. marco our guide, was fabulous, intelligent and informative and really kept us going, particularly when the going got rough. Great job. I would recommend this hike to anyone who loves nature, beautiful scenery and a great time outdoors. It was our favorite thing to do in Hong Kong. kudos Judith cooper
Our hike to the beaches was an extreamely well organised event. From the meeting point, to public transport to and from the park, as well as the hike itself. Many thanks to Marco our guide, and the team at WHK for their information and insight into HK.
Cheers for guiding us through something other than another shopping mall! If you visit HK you must get out of the city and see another aspect to it, and WHK is one very easy way in which to do this, you will not be disappointed! Thanks, Chris and Zaina.
Our walks with Roger and Jackie were the highlight of our trip to Hong Kong! Thank you for showing us these beautiful landscapes and thus greatly enhancing our experience. Your friendliness and knowledge made these hikes a real treat! Francoise and David : October 16, 2007
